A Decision Support System For Emergency Response Vehicle Maintenance

Working with the UK Government’s New Dimension Programme (NDP), we built a mathematical model to support long-term resilience through the maintenance of Fire and Rescue Service vehicles. The models continue to support evidence-based policy making through analysing:
-the capability to maintain emergency vehicles without jeopardising preparedness. The aim was to provide an appropriate response to three random, simultaneous incidents happening anywhere in England given different configurations of vehicle maintenance programme.
-resource utilisation with the aim of developing maintenance options which had little effect on capability to respond.
A flexible model was developed using travel times and user-defined key performance indicators. The models support members of the Department of Communities and Local Government to understand issues of logistics and timing of resource maintenance. This project was supported by Tayo Alabi.
