Motivation in security teams

This project was funded by the UK Government’s Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure and was delivered in collaboration with Booz & Co. The concept was to provide a scientifically valid measure of motivation to for application in a security context.

Project aims

Provide a validated managed tool to enable senior executives to implement appropriate management practice in the national infrastructure.

Motivation for Security Staff

  1. CPNI concerned with  security of critical national assets such as nuclear power plants, Palace of Westminster, Thames Barrier etc
  2. The human element is the key to security
  3. Work is repetitive and often at the low end of pay scales
  4. How to motivate staff when they may never detect the threat they are employed to prevent

Results

  1. Validated tool for measurement of motivation
  2. Application of the tool online and paper
  3. Outputs show key areas for management focus and implementation plans
  4. Tool available to all critical national infrastructure via CPNI website
