Dr Patrick Tissington delivered a session on public preparedness at the Cabinet Office’s Emergency Planning College this week. Present were Heads of Emergency Planning departments from all of the Core Cities Group, a network of England's major regional cities: Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham and Sheffield. The event, sponsored by the Emergency Planning Society, featured leading thinking on community resilience and sessions focused on questions of public preparedness for emergencies. Feedback from the session was excellent with reports of changes in approaches to emergency planning being actively considered as a direct result of the material presented. The concepts and models presented in the session were derived from the major European Commission project ERGO which is being carried out by members of the CRISIS centre and will be further showcased at the upcoming InterCEPt Conference.
